SWWDGA Mtg Minutes... February 7, 2016
@Heritage Kungfu &Tai Chi, 249 NW Chehalis Av, Chehalis, WA 98532

Meeting was called to order at 1:12 by Vice President, Lisa. Since we had a good number of members and visitors present we took a few minutes to introduce ourselves. Nancy had set out a sign-in sheet. Those present were:
Bridget Fosse
Jody Ashton
Dixie Lee Davis
Hannah Dwyer
Chaise Dwyer
Garnet Dwyer
Donna Smith
Carol Melena
Lisa Beaver
Pat Hendrickson
Bernita Narvaez
MaryAnne Bevard
Bill Moomau
Marsha Hickman
Cindy Johnson
Bruce Whithorn
Nancy LaMont
Dorothy Wright
Mary E Chilton

OLD BUSINESS: Minutes of the last meeting were read.
Treasurer's report: $384.13 in checking (-$200 for insurance not posted yet), $3.73 in petty cash & $2919.74 in savings for a total of $3107.06—all bills were current. It was not moved nor seconded to accept T-report.

SHOW UPDATE: 2016 show date is May 21st.
Sponsorships: All have now been paid. Best of Show Awards will be provided by Marsha Hickman, Carol Melena, and Don/Judy Hoy.
Discussion was made of chronically late to show people; their breed will show later in the show to accommodate somewhat.

A semen tank will be donated by Mary. The semen in tank may be for sale.

NEW BUSINESS: Oregon Goat Conference was brought up. Date is Feb 27th and costs $35 dollars. No printed packet handouts this year. It was asked of Jessica to link on our website.

Bruce is not able to get prison work release guys to set up Thursday before show. Jody volunteered to check with local FFA/4H kids who need to do community service. If we can’t get 4-H kids to set up pens we need to get some members to volunteer to set up pens.

People would rather not have straw bales opened and straw placed in pens, but to do that themselves. Apx 50 bales of straw is needed for 1/3 bale for each pen x 104 pens. Donna Smith would get the 30 bales we had reserved for the show. (it was all the man had) But we still need 20 more reasonable priced bales.

Bruce has 2 flat carts that he will bring. Can fit like 10 bales of straw on each.

Raffle: Bridget is making a wall quilt for raffle along with some goat milk soap to raffle off.

We will have an educational demonstration of hoof trimming, disbudding, horn/scur banding, and the use of milking machines at the next meeting, provided it is at Moe’s or another venue where we can have live animal work. Proposed date is April 16th, likely an 11AM start with pot luck lunch.

Will try to have meetings not on Sundays for those who attend church.

Business portion of the meeting was adjourned at 2:20. Minutes taken by Nancy LaMont and submitted to Jessica Monday before noon.

Held at the Fred Hess kitchen building, recreation park, Chehalis.

Meeting was called to order at 11:25 by President, Moe. Since we had a good number of members and visitors present we took a few minutes to introduce ourselves. Pat had set out a sign-in sheet: Those present were:
Bridget Fosse
Jody Ashton
Jeannine Kelley
Melinda Dauley
Hannah & Chaise Dwyer
Lisa Beaver
Pat Hendrickson
Ann (Moe) Moelham
Marsha Hickman
Robin & Cindy Johnson
Bruce & Penny Whithorn
Nancy LaMont

OLD BUSINESS:
Minutes of the last meeting were unavailable.
Treasurer's report: $204.13 in checking, $13.73 in petty cash & $2884.37 in savings for a total of $2917.97—all bills were current. It was moved & seconded to accept T-repeort.
A financial report for the show and AI clinic was passed around so new members could get familiar with some of the club's financial responsibilities. It was noted that the income from the AI clinic made up for the loss of money from the show. Pat did mention that the building we were meeting in cost $80.00 and said we need to find less expensive options. This brought up some discussion, more in New Business.

SHOW UPDATE: Pat reported she had contracts back from two of our judges for the show. The 3rd was confirmed via phone & email but the contract was still outstanding. 2016 show date is May 21st.

NEW BUSINESS:
Election of officers and director position #2 were held.
President: Moe was nominated and elected by unanimous ballot to continue as President for 2016
V-President: Lisa Beaver was nominated and elected by unanimous ballot to continue as VP for 2016
Secretary: Nancy LaMont was nominated and elected by unanimous ballot as our new secretary for 2016.
Treasurer: Pat Hendrickson was nominated and elected by unanimous ballot to continue as Treasurer.
Director #2, 2016-2018 term: one of our new members was nominated, Bridget Fosse, and was elected by unanimous ballot to fill the position.

2016 show: Pat asked for volunteers to fill two positions of show secretary for the show. Jessica Howard had already volunteered to fill one position. Penny Whithorn and Dixie Lee Davis were selected to fill those two positions.
Sponsorships of $25.00 each were solicited for breed sanctions for our 2016 show, all senior doe breeds were filled by these sponsors:
* Alpines: Bill Moomau---paid
* Lamancha: Dixie Lee Davis (payment pending)
* Nigerian: Nancy LaMont (payment pending)
* Nubian: Hannah Dwyer---paid
* Saanen: Pat Hendrickson---paid
* Toggenburg: Lisa Beaver---paid
* Oberhasli: Bruce & Penny Whithorn---paid
One Junior doe sponsorship was covered at the meeting:
* Lamancha Jr does: available
* Nigerian Jr does: Moe---paid
* AOP Jr does: available
Best Senior Doe in Show sponsorships are all available: 3 are needed. It is suggested that a sponsor find a goat related item valued + or- $25 for these. Or it could be a gift card if you can't decide on a prize type item.

Raffle: Bruce Whithorn will run the raffle table. There are already several items on hand for it. Bruce asked that anyone with something to donate bring it to the next meeting or two so he could get them listed. If we had some outstanding donations they would be listed on the clubs web page. He has storage space at home for items donated.

Meeting locations: Cindy Johnson generously offered her King Fu studio in Chehalis for meetings that could be held on Sundays. It was moved by Lisa B and 2nd by Penny W to accept the offer.
Since the club would need to supply some tables and folding chairs for this venue, it was moved by Bruce W, 2nd by Nancy L to purchase up to 4 folding tables and chairs for up to $200.00. This passed with the understanding the tables could be stored on site. Several members present said they had some folding chairs they would donate.

Next meeting date (tentative) will be February7th at this facility. It was suggested to me we move to a later start time to allow members to come after church. However this was after the meeting was adjourned so no motion was proposed for it.

Penny was going to contact a party she knows in Winlock that would have a facility where we may be able to meet, especially for a clinic type meeting where we would have a few live animals.

It was suggested that we hold a cheese making class October 2016 with the idea the club could profit from doing this. Bruce and Penny offered to approach a cheese maker they know about this. More information will be available at our next meeting.

Business portion of the meeting was adjourned at 12:50
Minutes taken by Pat & Penny—any omissions are by Pat who compiled all our scribbles to submit to Jessica for our web page.

At the beginning of the meeting we had set up 7 fecal samples to examine for worms. All of the samples were clear! We had hoped to find a few eggs to identify but none were found.

MINUTES OF JANUARY 24, 2015 MEETING
Southwest Washington DGA held at Bruce & Penny Whithorn's

Meeting was called to order at 12:20PM by Treasurer, Pat Hendrickson.

In attendance were: Pat Hendrickson, Bruce & Penny Whithorn, Nancy LaMont, Dixie Lee Davis, Sandra Whitaker, Jolene Scott & District VII Director Mark Baden. President Ann Moelham arrived after the business meeting.

Due to the number of attendees who were not at the October meeting, it was decided to go over highlights of the meeting minutes, after the Treasurer's report.

Treasurer's report: $2486.78 in savings, $367.15 in checking, $43.18 in petty cash and $15.00 in UN-deposited dues checks for a total of $2,912.11. Since the October meeting the liability insurance for 2015, $250.00 was paid. All bills are current. Payment for one breed sponsorship was still outstanding. T-report was approved.

OLD BUSINESS; highlights of the October minutes were read. The sliding scale for entries was well received by all present. The idea to get breed sponsors and Best In Show sponsors was also well received. Many commented that a sliding scale would help them expense wise and be an encouragement to enter a few more animals.

Julie Pirtle had indicated at the October meeting her 4-H group may not be setting up pens. More on this under New Business.

The idea of a stand alone buck show was mentioned and would be discussed more fully in New Business.

NEW Business: Pat reported that all three judges were confirmed. They are Jeremy & Justin Lesniak from NY and Kalypso Rousso, an apprentice from Oregon. A short 'bio' has been requested from each, to include with our show flyer, since they are all new to judging our show.

All breed sponsorships were taken as well as all three BIS award sponsorships.

Pat still needed one show Secretary. Penny has a person in mind to ask for the duty. Hopefully this position will be filled soon.

We normally have enough members on show day to ring steward, however, anyone attending the show that can offer to help even for short periods of time is encouraged and very welcome to offer that help!

Stand alone buck show: Penny told of a new facility being built in Winlock that could be an inside venue for a buck show. Pat brought up expenses for putting on any stand alone show. There was some lively discussion about taking a day to just show bucks VS doing bucks along with the doe show. Valid points on time and expenses to travel to just show a few bucks VS staying later on the same day you show does to show bucks. Same trip expenses for exhibitors and same judge/facility expense for a show.

It was requested that we ask exhibitors to fill out a short survey on buck shows: Would they support a stand alone show or support one held the same day after the doe show?

Setting up pens for show; If Julie's group is not available to set up pens, we either need a group of 4-6 people able to come in Thursday before the show to set up pens. Or we need a member who can get approval from the Lewis County Sheriff's department (pass background check) to get work release prisoners to do the job. Bruce might be able to do this if no other option is available.

Raffle table at show: Bruce was getting some donations. Several members in attendance offered items. Possible kids or kid certificates. Those present mentioned finding/donating items children would want as well as practical and useful goat items. Anyone with items to donate should let Bruce know what you have.

ELECTIONS OF OFFICERS AND ONE DIRECTOR: It was moved by Penny, 2nd by Nancy to re-elect the current President, VP & Treasurer. All were in favor and a unanimous ballot was cast for these three positions.
Pat nominated Penny, 2nd by Dixie for Secretary, no other nominations were made and a unanimous ballot was cast for Penny to become Secretary.
The open 3 year director term, Nancy nominated Dixie, 2nd by Bruce, no other nominations were made and a unanimous ballot was cast for Dixie to have a 3 year director term.

Following the elections the meeting was turned over to Mark Baden, who gave a very informative presentation of the importance of ADGA performance programs.

Mark started by asking how many were currently on or planing to do DHIR & Linear Appraisal. 50% of those present raised their hands. Several were old hands at both and some doing LA for the first time in 2015.

Mark mentioned that with all the innovative milk test options now available that getting some meaningful data on production was easier for ADGA members to do.

Mark reminded everyone that the deadline for voting on the 2015 ADGA National Show judges was January 26th. The ballot was in the 4th Qtr News & Events. New this year was that members could vote for 6 judges and the top 5 vote winners were offered the job. In the past the members only voted for 3 judges and the National Show committee selected the others. Members would need to FAX their ballots to the ADGA office if they had not already voted and mailed them by now.

Linear and DHIR deadlines are January 31st. Pat and Penny mentioned they were signed up as host herds for LA. Each had 2 or more other herds coming to get scored at their farm.

Mark informed us that District VII provides more DATA in the LA & DHIR Programs then any other ADGA District. We are the largest geographically of all ADGA districts since we include Parts of Canada, Alaska, OR, ID, WA, MT, WY, & North & South Dakota.

Large numbers of herds in Oregon and Washington participate in LA each year making District VII Linear Appraisal trips almost the only money making sessions in the program. Linear Appraisal is a money looser each year for ADGA.

Mark mentioned we have 3 new appraisers but that Betty Henning was retiring so not taking any field work but may do a few special sessions if needed.

Mark mentioned that 10,000 animals were scored in 2014 up 2000 since 2012. He stressed that to be included in LA members needed to get their applications in BEFORE the deadline since many were turned down that applied late due to limited field days that can be scheduled for appraisers to work.

Changes for LA starting this year: YOUNG stock has to be a minimum of 4 months of age. Any kid offered for LA must be registered. Prices for young stock was raised since they take as much time as adults.
ADGA wants to encourage members to score milking does since this is where the meaningful DATA is derived from. Buck scores are nice but the scores of daughters give a truer evaluation of a bucks worth.

Mark stressed that DATA from DHIR & LA has been a major factor in making US Goats attractive to export buyers. Proven genetics are in demand.

Mark explained how the Superior Genetics awards were given. Both Linear and production records figure into the award as well as offspring.

In discussing show wins both Mark and Pat, long time ADGA Judges, explained that a CH on the papers only means the goat was the best at three shows on three days. The competition could well have been mediocre at best. That same goat could go to a strongly competitive show and not place better then mid class.

Linear scores are against a 100 point scale...the 90 doe is 90% of IDEAL. Not all EX90 does are champions, some never get to shows. However these does are genetically excellent.

Meeting was adjourned at 2:20

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS: Sandra Whitaker & Jolene Scott!!

Minutes compiled by Pat Hendrickson from notes taken by both Pat and Penny

October 11, 2014

Submitted by the Secretary, Jessica Howard

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE:
Mary Chilton, Bruce & Penny Whithorn, Carol Melen, Julie & Sable Pirtle, Ann Moelhman, Sheryl Horst, Pat Hendrickson, Jessica Howard, LJ Wallin

FINANCIAL REPORT:
Submitted by Pat Hendrickson, Treasurer:
Bank account has $2486.50 in savings $624.64 in checking + $23.18 in petty cash
**numbers from the September meeting, only the petty cash had increased, but I didn’t catch the figure.**
Treasurers report was accepted.

2015 SHOW:
Pat mentioned that Lisa Beaver had gotten feedback from one exhibitor, asking if the fees could be lowered and pen fees added.

Discussion at the table:
· Those with big goats would be at a disadvantage from those with little goats.
· Maybe doing a sliding scale per head fee? More goats, lower fees.

Motion was made and passed to go with the sliding scale, per goat head fees and continue with no pen fees.
Fees would be as follows:

$2 – Herd Fee
$7 – the first 4 goats entered
$5 – goats 5-9
$3 – for the 10th goat and more
LATE goat entry fees, would add $2 per head.

Those interested in being SANCTION SPONSORS for the different breeds, are to contact Penny Whithorn (pwhithorn AT gmail DOT com) to find out what’s still available. The $20 would cover the ribbon fees for each of the 3 rings, plus the breeds portion of the sanction fees. As of the meeting, we had 3 breeds remaining:

LaMancha – Julie Pirtle
Oberhalsi – Bruce & Penny Whithorn
Recorded Grade – Bruce & Penny Whithorn
Saanen – Pat Hendrickson
Nubian – Carol Melena
Alpine –
Toggenburg –
Nigerian Dwarf –

We also discussed that we would like to have people sponsor/provide BEST DOE IN SHOW award (item, gift card, money, etc…) with a minimum cost of $25. We didn’t assign anyone to oversee this, so contact Jessica Howard (jessicadairy AT gmail DOT com), if you have something to contribute!
Then we went on to discussing possible judges. The ones Pat will start with first are:
Jeremy & Justin Lesniak
Chris Strickland
And maybe another apprentice judge from CA, but he wasn’t on ADGA’s website and I didn’t catch the name.
If those don’t work out, she’ll continue through the Judges list. ;-)

We will be doing a 3 ring Sr Doe show again this year on Saturday, May 16th!

Show Secretaries will be
Mary Chilton, Jessica Howard, and we need one more (preferably one that isn’t showing, too).

Julie Pirtle mentioned that her 4-H club may not be willing to help set up pens again this year. She will confirm it at their next meeting, and get back to us. So we MAY need volunteers to help get pens set up on the Thursday before the show!

BUCK SHOW??:
Pat Hendrickson is willing to host a Buck-in-a-Truck show in a field at her farm. House and barn would be off limits, so we would need to rent a SaniCan, tables and tents, if there is an interest in doing one.

RAFFLE:
WE NEED MORE ITEMS DONATED TO THE RAFFLE TABLE!!!! Lets make this year the best raffle table yet!!

MEMBERSHIP DUES:
Please check the membership list on our website SWWDGA.org to see that your membership is current for 2015 (there is a year date, after your name). Membership costs are $5/yr for individual or family memberships. You can pay your membership dues online.

NEXT MEETING:
TBA (probably in January?)

Pat then asked for volunteers to be Show Secretaries for the 3 rings. Jessica Howard, Ann Moelhman, & Sheryl Horst all volunteered and signed the required paperwork for ADGA.

Lisa Beaver mentioned she’d like some help/someone to take over the raffle table this year. This job involves seeking out donations, collecting donations, and setting up/manning/and taking down the raffle table on show day. Bruce & Penny Whithorn offered to help out in this area.

So, if you want to get on the list to LA this year, don’t wait too long to get your application in, for the best price! Herd fees will be due a few months before you are scheduled to do LA, when they send you the paperwork with the date you will be done.

BUCK SHOW – INVESTIGATIVE COMMITTEE FORMED
It was decided, voted on, and approved to have an investigative committee formed to look into the reasonability of putting on a Buck Show in the area this year, with a possible date of May 10th.
Members Lisa Beaver & Ann Moelhman, are heading up this committee, and searching out locations that a Buck-in-a-Truck Show could be held reasonably, with easy access, plenty of parking and a covered area if weather is bad.
They will report back with their findings by the end of February, so we have enough time to get judges and the word out.

EDUCATIONAL CLASSES – INVESTIGATIVE COMMITTEE FORMED
Aaron Houk brought up the need for adding fresh membership, to our numbers, and suggested we do that by holding monthly/quarterly educational classes.
There was discussion as to locations we could meet for free or reasonable fees. Possible locations were:
Grange in Rochester
Tenino High School
Fort Borst Park
It was discussed that disbudding, tattooing, hoof trimming and worm slides would be great topics to start with. Thought was that maybe the end of March/early April would be a good time to hold one. Also mentioned was a $5/person fee for the class to cover any expenses for putting it together.
It was decided, voted on, and approved to have an investigative committee formed to look into locations and what it would take to put on an educational class.
Members Aaron Houk & Ann Moelhman, are heading up this committee.

CLARK CO CLUB LIAISON
It was brought up that we have contacted the Clark Co Goat Club, in the past to join us in sponsoring extra rings or a buck show (as they no longer do their own show), and help up us by providing volunteers to be show secretaries & ring stewards, but have not gotten a response. Bruce & Penny Whithorn are members of both our club and Clark Co, and said they would like to become a liaison between the clubs and see if we can get some co-sponsorships put together. They will be bringing this possibility up with Clark Co at their next meeting, especially in regards with the buck show mentioned above.

KIDS POSTER CONTEST AT SHOW
Another idea to bring more interest and participation to the show this year, was to have a Kids Poster Contest. As the discussions happened one idea was to have exhibitors vote for their favorite. This idea needs to be developed some more, but could be one that would bring in more public and more families.

It was discussed that one idea of increasing income, at future shows, would be to raise entry fees by $1/head. As we don’t do pen fees and our per head fee is one of the lowest. As an example, we had 170 goats this year. If you times that by 3 we would have gained an extra $510 in entry fees and been in the black.
It was also discussed that would should send out a Post Survey Questionnaire to all our Exhibitors, with questions about show costs and what they would like to see at our show.
Aaron Houk mentioned that High School kids need to do community work, to be able to graduate from HS. So thought we might be able to get some of them to help with setting up pens (along with the 4-H helpers we had this year!) and other go-to errands and other needs during show day.

2013 SHOW:
Pat Hendrickson reported that she has been running into problems with finding Judges for the June 29th show that we voted on at our September meeting. It appears that even though the ADGA National Show is July 6-13th and in MN this year, there are several of the Judges she has contacted (one being Megan & Aaron Treadway), that would be either traveling or packing for Nationals during our Show, so would NOT be available to judge. But several said they would be available, if our show was earlier.
She also found out that several of our local breeders (Mark Baden, Lori Acton, Kim Puzio, Sonia Thyssen and Judi Bevaart) were planning on attending ADGA Nationals this year also, and losing their goat numbers would greatly impact our show, as they would not bring their girls out to a show, just ONE week before Nationals.
This would also make it difficult to get breeds sanctioned.
So, She went back to the drawing board… Contacted the Fairgrounds and the only date still available, to hold the show, was Saturday, May 18, 2013.

So, it was moved, 2nd and approved to move the show back to May 18th and hold a 3 ring Sr Doe show (I believe that would be all the breeds, but Sables?) & a 3 ring Buck show (Nubians, LaManchas, Nigerian Dwarfs & AOP).

*** As of January 1st we have the following judges CONFIRMED for our 3 ring show!!! Sue Barker, BC Canada, Sam Whiteside, CA, and a totally new (never been in WA to judge), Gary Whitehead, TX. ***

We would also continue with Youth Showmanship, and all three judges have been told they may each have a class, if we receive enough youth entries!

Of those in attendance of our December meeting, we have the following volunteers to fill the position of Show Secretary. There are a total of 6 rings (3 Sr Does & 3 Bucks) that will need a Show Secretary, so if you’re willing to help, please let us know! We’ll also have positions open for Ring Stewards.
Mary Chilton – Sr Doe only
Jessica Howard – Sr Doe and possible Buck (if I can get a back up milker)

It was discussed that we still need to do some type of education, to make our club of more interest to bring in more new people. But it was tabled for more discussion later. And members were encouraged to attend the NWODGA Conference the end of February, and invite others to go, too.

NWODGA GOAT CONFERENCE:
A fun filled day of goat education and learning on Saturday, Feb. 23rd, 2013! A wide variety of classes for goat owners of all kinds; beginners to experienced breeders. Plus vendors, raffles, and classes for 4Hers too! http://nwodga.org/annual_dairy_goat_conference.html Visit the NWODGA website for a printable flyer, early online registration, and directions to the NEW LOCATION @ Clackamas High School! Share the below flyer with friends, fellow club members, and add it to your page to spread the word on a great goat education opportunity! http://nwodga.org/2013-Goat-Conference.pdf

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE:
Pat Hendrickson, Bill Moomau, Lisa Beaver, Mike Korhonen & Jessica Howard.

Minutes from the Oct 2011 meeting were accepted.

FINANCIAL REPORT:

REGIONAL SHOW:
Mike Korhonen reported that he did email the NWODGA club to request a room during the lunch hour to discuss with interested parties, regarding a regional show. He did get a response back, but then NWODGA never followed through. So this idea of doing a Regional Show seems to be a dead idea…

CALENDARS:
Calendar ad submissions were low this year, but we are still making a profit!
Calendar ad income this year brought in $407.50, and club expenses to purchase the calendars (and ship a few) was $287.00. For a profit of $120.50.
We do have extras printed, available for sale; and can print more, if there’s an interest!

NEW BUSINESS:
Mike Korhonen made a proposal to for the club to support Jessica Howard, as a Contributing Sponsor, who is putting on an ADGA Sanctioned Combined Jr/Sr Doe show & One Day Milk Test at the Mason Area Fair (formally Mason County Fair) in Shelton, this year during their fair, July 27-29, 2012 (through her dairy, Jekuthiel‘s Dairy).
It was decided to give her $50 in cash to be put towards show awards.
More info on the show or one day milk test can be found here:
http://jekuthiel.com/MasonAreaFairADGAShowMilkTest.html

OPEN DISCUSSION:
What to do about shows and low participation?
Should we sponsor a sanctioned show at Clark Fair?

ELECTIONS:
There was not a quorum, so elections were not held.

We discussed the costs of judges, and what it would cost to bring in non-local judges. Pat Hendrickson stated that local judges run about $500 and non-local judges $1000-$1200, after you figure in their fee, transportation and motels.

So, in noting that bringing in a non-local judge would cost an extra $500, the 2012 Nationals would be in the vicinity (Colorado), and the low membership participation at meetings and helping with the show. A motion was made to skip the 2012 SWWDGA Show. 1st by Mike Korhonen & 2nd by Dorthy Wright. It was so approved by several Yes votes and a few Abstaining votes (neutrals).

CALENDARS:
Calendar ad income this year brought in $690, and club expenses to purchase the calendars was $232.24. For a profit of $457.76.
Jessica Howard asked the club, if with the increase of the Club’s calendar cost (from $5 to $7 per calendar), we wanted to continue publishing our Fundraiser Breeding/Kidding Calendar.
It was unanimously decided to keep publishing the calendar, with the following prices:
$20 for Month Business Card Spaces
$25 for Back Page Business Card Spaces
$10 for the club to sell the Calendars for
Jessica will be updating the Website soon with the new 2012/2013 Calendar info, but you can still purchase the 2011/2012 Calendar at the website.

PLANS FOR 2012 (While we take a break with the Show):
Ann Moelhman proposed we do some informational classes to help educate members and in hopes of bring in more active members into the club.
She was nominated to Informational Class Chairman and to put together a proposal of classes before the club at our next meeting in early December.
Discussed classes include:
- Judging - Class Room/Workshop
- AI - Class Room/Workshop

REGIONAL SHOW:
Mike Korhonen asked the club’s approval to present a letter to the NWODGA Club to request a room during the lunch hour at the February Conference to discuss with interested parties, the SWWDGA Club getting together with other local Goat Clubs and forming a Regional Show in a central location.
Which could increase the numbers of people to help put on the show, and bring in more rings and a multi day goat show.
He also considered doing a ‘Chili Feed’, during the gathering at the Conference.
His motion was approved, and he will be getting a letter off shortly.

GOLDEN GURNSEYS:
Discussion was started by Mike Korhonen regarding the proposed ADGA Survey regarding adding Golden Gurnseys, as a breed, into the ADGA herd books.
After much discussion, it was agreed on by the members present, that the SWWDGA Club would support this action.

NEXT MEETING:
No actual date was decided upon, but it will be sometime in Early December.
Elections & Membership Dues are on the agenda.

SHOW:
Lots of discussion of possible dates without conflicting with already established shows, and what types of rings to have. This is what we came up with as possible and Pat Hendrickson would check with the Fairgrounds to see which dates were available:

Sat, May 21st -- 3 ring Sr Doe show
Sat, July 9th -- 3 rings of Sr Does & 3 rings of Jr Does (but not sanction all Jr Doe breeds)

**************
AMENDMENT TO THE ABOVE SHOW DATE INFO!!!
July 9th & June 25th (a 3rd date that was confirmed after the meeting, that didn‘t conflict with a show) are taken for other events at the Fairgrounds that require the entire fairgrounds or the barn area. The only weekend that was available was May 21st. So Pat Hendrickson has reserved that day for our show and we will be doing a 3 ring Sr Doe show!
Now to find 3 Judges available for that date!
**************

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE:
Mike & Evelyn Korhonen, Pat Hendrickson, Jessica Howard, Mary Chilton, Davis, Kathleen & Tiffany Hylkema, Lisa Beaver, Lara Jones (new member, WELCOME!), and Dorthy Wright

Financial report submitted by Pat Hendrickson, Treasurer:
$3,255.05 savings, $861.38 checking, $35.38 in petty cash, and $4,151.81 total.
$60 paid for liability insurance.
No outstanding bills.

Website:
Lisa Beaver thanked Jessica Howard for her work on the website and stated that it was very easy to navigate and find!

2010 Show:
Karen Senn took another judging assignment, so is no longer one of our judges this year. We were able to get Lynn Harrington to fill the 3rd Judging position and Sue Barker as our 4th Judge.
We also have a LaMancha & Nigerian Dwarf Specialties.
So for Judges we have:
    SATURDAY:
RING #1 - Tom Considine (DistVII Nigerian Dwarf Specialty)
        RING #2 - Chuck Pedersen
(Tom & Chuck will also be doing the Youth Showmanship Sat AM)
RING #3 - Lynn Harrington (Saturday Buck Show, only)
    SUNDAY:
RING #3 - Lynn Harrington (DistVII LaMancha Specialty)
        RING #4 - Sue Barker
LaMancha Club also has two Showmanship Awards (new this year) that we will be giving out.
The food concession stand at the fairgrounds will be open as there is another event happening that weekend.
Precision Sharpening Service will be at the show again this year, so bring your dull blades!
If you plan on staying over at the fairgrounds Sunday night (July 4th), do be aware that there will be fireworks in the Grandstands! So, make sure your goats are secure, if they are spooky around fireworks.
It was proposed that we keep the per goat fees the same as last year.
$6/goat or $8/goat for late fees
It was also proposed to offer the 3rd Jr Doe registered, in the same ring, would be free.
All fee proposals were unanimously approved.
It was also brought up that we should have a few members willing to bring cameras and help get pictures of the winners and Specialty classes. Pat thought Lisa Eruhow-Hagan might be able to help and Mike Korhonen also offered to help. We would also try and set up a special spot, with back-drop, for taking pictures.
Pat Hendrickson said that she had the straw we would need for the show that she was able to get for $4/bale. She also has also has the shavings for the show at $5/bale.

Raffle:
Lisa Beaver reminded members to be thinking of things to donate to the club raffle. Also maybe things that could be put together in baskets for a larger raffle item. She also mentioned that if members came across wicker baskets, that those made great containers for making up gift baskets for the raffle. You can bring raffle donations to the next meeting or to the show.
Drawing for the raffle will happen on Sunday morning after the Sr Doe show.

Show Awards:
Pat Hendrickson said she would be contacting the people from the last meeting that had mentioned donating items for the show awards.
Our show historically offers show award for all the CH & RCH winners. When we tallied up this year’s breeds and rings we came up with 169 awards for CH, RCH and BIS.
4 rings of Sr Does, with 8 breeds in each ring, so 8 CH & RCH awards are needed for each of the 4 rings.
4 rings of Jr Does, with 8 breeds in each ring, so 8 CH & RCH awards are needed for each of the 4 rings.
3 rings of Bucks, with 5 breeds in each ring, so 5 GCH & RGCH awards are needed for each of the 3 rings.
And then we have the Best in Show Awards (11 total):
4 Sr Doe rings
4 Jr Doe rings
3 Buck rings

So, with the sheer number of awards needed for this large of a show we looking for members that might be willing to donate sets of 8 (all the CH or RCH awards in one ring for Sr or Jr does) or a set of 5 for one of the buck rings.
Possible awards could be: Brushes, leads, buckets, collars, soap, mugs, teas/powdered drinks, etc…
We are also looking for larger donations for one of the Best in Show awards (as these don‘t need to be all the same, and it would be noted on the award, as to who the donator was).
Please contact Pat Hendrickson or Jessica Howard with your ideas, if you are willing to donate, so we know when we have a ring covered!

It was decided at the meeting to do Breeding Calendars for Sue Barker’s ring of Sr Does, CH & RCH (16 total), at a cost to the club of $4 each.

Calendars:
Jessica Howard updated members that there are 3 month card spaces (now only 2) and 10 back page spaces still available for this year‘s calendar. Members have until May 31st to buy last minutes business card spaces! We were able to sell 5 of the first printing calendars at the NWODGA Conference in Feb.
Business Card sales have already brought in $491.50, 5 calendars sold $40, and then the expense to the club for the 5 sold calendars and the 26 complimentary calendars is $168.02. We still need to pay for the ones we print to sell at the show. So, we are in good shape with the calendars!

NEXT MEETING:
Sunday, June 6th 1PM at Mike Korhonens

Dec 6, 2009

Submitted by the 2010 Secretary, Jessica Howard

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE:
Mike Korhonen, Pat Hendrickson, Jessica Howard, Mary Chilton, Ann Moelhman, Dawn Lantz, and Justin & Caprice Kramer

Financial report submitted by Pat Hendrickson, Treasurer:
There was $237.20 that she didn’t know was in the club’s PayPal account, so we only lost $38.35 on this year’s show instead of the $275.55 that was reported at our November meeting!

2010 Show:
Chehalis Fair Grounds is reserved for the July 3-4, 2010 show.
Adding Sunday will only cost us $125 extra. Fairground costs this year was $960.
There is a possible addition in cost to bedding removal with adding the extra day, but Pat Hendrickson didn’t think it would be too much.
It was also noted that there would be fireworks at the Fairgrounds on Sunday night after dark, but it shouldn’t be a problem for anyone showing unless they stay overnight on Sunday, as we should be done showing long before they start.
It was put up to a vote, after making sure we had enough help lined up, as to wether to have a Saturday/Sunday show or just keep it a Saturday show. There were 7 votes for yes and one abstaining vote. So we are officially putting on a TWO day show during the 4th of July weekend in 2010.
We will be doing Youth Showmanship, 2 rings of Sr Does, 2 rings of Jr Does and 3 rings of Bucks on Saturday. Sunday we will do 2 rings of Sr Does & 2 rings of Jr does.
Possible buck sanctions would be: Nubian, Nigerian Dwarf, Toggenburg, AOP & possibly LaMancha.
Saturday Judges are Thomas Considine & Chuck Pedersen. Karen Senn will be doing one of the Saturday buck rings and a Sr/Jr doe ring on Sunday. We still need a judge for the second Sr/Jr doe ring on Sunday.
We decided to have Pat Hendrickson contact Chris Strickland, Cathy Pindell & Mark Baden (in that order) for the 4th judging position.

Show Awards:
Pat Hendrickson said she’d had 3 offers from members to do show awards for 2010.
Sonia Thyssen - lead ropes
Stangelands - something with embroidery
Mark Baden - a best in show award (IF we do one this year.)

Calendars:
Jessica Howard announced that the calendars would be cheaper this year since our show is now in July she could take off one of the months and reduce the club’s cost of the calendars by $1! The calendars would run from July - June, instead of June - June, as in the previous 5 years we have been doing our fundraiser calendar.
Jessica Howard also needed a confirmation of the cost we were going to offer Kiperts Korner Feed & Wiggins, if they wanted to market our fundraiser calendars.
It was discussed and decided that we would do an introductory price of $6 per calendar (they would need to pay upfront) the first year. This price would also cover the shipping costs to them. We would then negotiate a price for following year(s), if they were interested in continuing to carry them.
The business would also get a free card space listing on the calendar.
There was a motion by Mary Chilton and a second by Dawn Lantz to make the calendar price $7 and keep it at that price for following years, but that motion was voted down.

Website:
Jessica Howard announced that the club’s new website was up and running!
http://SWWDGA.org
Memberships and Calendar spaces can be purchased online. When the show info is finalized you will be able to get Show info there, too, and even do online paid entries.
It was discussed that we should add the Meeting Minutes & Show Financial Reports to the website, and was approved by vote.

Other Business:
It was brought up that the Club used to have a brochure that could be handed out to interested parties and Mike Korhonen said he would contact the person who did it before to see if she still had the info, so that we could get one put together again.
It was also brought up by Caprice Kramer, that she would like to see more Education/Goat Care topics brought up at the meetings, or gatherings for the public to expose people to basic goat care.
Mike Korhonen offered to do a Fecal testing class at some point at one of the future meetings.

Elections:
President: Mike Korhonen (same as 2009)
Vice President: Lisa Beaver (same as 2009)
Treasurer: Pat Hendrickson (same as 2009)
Secretary: Jessica Howard (new appointment)
We had one outgoing Director (Freda Curelas) this year, Ann Moelhman was elected to fill that 3yr slot.
